Committee Update #7 – 21st Aug 2008

Dear Fellow Curler,I hope all is well with you.
The club committee met this week.
We made further plans for the bbq on Sat 6th Sept. It should be good fun, a chance to catch up with each other over some food and drink, and do some fundraising for the club.

If any of you would be prepared to donate something for the silent auction, then it would be appreciated – do let us know.

We also need to know if you will be attending, to sort the food buying, etc. So far we have had 6 replies, so a gentle nuge on that front!

We do have Giant Twister, so will need more than 6 just for that alone!

If you need the form again, let us know. (Hitting reply to this will go the committee email, so that’ll do the job fine).

We also need to give a nudge on membership forms. To date we have in the region of 10 members for next season, and the leagues will be a bit thin on the ground at that rate!

Obviously lots of people are away or not thinking about curling yet, but it does make life easier for us if we know sooner rather than later who will be playing and who will not.

Once the memberships are back we can issue a final games calendar.

For those not playing in leagues, there are other events down, which you may wish to note in your diary –

5th Oct – Come and try – a great opportunity to introduce your friends to curling!

18th Oct – Coach the coaches. This will leave you able to take newbies onto the ice.

25th/26th OCT – The English Masters. Sponsored by Glenfarclas whisky, with £300 of whisky prizes, open to teams of any 4 curlers.

£40 entry, guaranteed 4 games. This is a rink event, but should be well supported by SECC and friends!

15th Nov – Umpire course. If you want to learn about umpiring, then the rink is holding this event with Leslie Ingram-Brown.

22nd Nov – Points competition, fiendishly difficult but great fun, and popular when introduced last season.

23rd Nov – Come and Try

20th Dec – The Great Gordino Classic. 2nd staging of this, a minispiel.

18th Jan – Come and Try

31st Jan – Points

14th/15th Feb – Alexander Fleming Trophy, over 50 years old, a lovely trophy put on by London CC.

7th Mar – Novice minispiel, 4 any curlers leas than 3 years experience, playing for the excellent John Brown Jubilee Trophy.

4th Apr – Points

So you can see there is plenty to get your teeth into. You can check dates with your diary and register your interest for any of these.

We also still need players for the ECA Interclub tournament. 2 SECC teams allowed. This is open to full members of the ECA, and will be held in Kelso 11th/12th Oct, alongside the ECA Mixed Doubles.

There is also a spot for an ECA Southern Area Rep. James Hustler is one representative, and we can have 2, so if you’d like to do that let us know.

The Area rep is the liason between club and ECA, and you will go to any ECA council meetings.

Ok, that’s it for now – look forward to seeing you at the BBQ and if you have any questions, just hit reply!

‘Til Next Time,

SECC Committee
